Welcome to the settings menu — the place where you change stuff and pretend you totally knew what it did.
Press ESC on your keyboard to open it.

Glitchout automatically matches its FPS cap to the refresh rate of the screen you're using.
So if you have:
Glitchout will run at:
Move the game between monitors and the FPS cap updates automatically.
🤓 Nerd note:
Hz means how many times your monitor can refresh the image every second.
A 144 Hz monitor can show up to 144 new images per second.
More Hz = smoother pixels doing zoomies.
Glitchout currently supports two modes:
🤓 Nerd note:
"Native resolution" is basically the resolution your monitor was born to use.
Example:
If your monitor is 2560×1440, fullscreen will use 2560×1440.
No resolution calculus required.
Glitchout supports:
Desktop: Aegis256
Windows, Linux, and eventually macOS.
Mobile: XChaCha20Poly1305
Android and iOS.
Aegis256 is disabled on mobile.
Encryption adds a tiny amount of extra data to every message sent or received.
🤓 Nerd note:
A "byte" is a tiny piece of data.
For comparison, 1 MB = roughly 1,000,000 bytes.
So no, your internet bill is not going to explode because Aegis added 48 extra bytes.
Use this if you want maximum speed.
It can use special CPU instructions, which makes it extremely fast on supported desktop hardware.
Translation: CPU goes brrrr.
Use this if you want to use slightly less network data.
It is also very fast and is the option used on mobile.
Both are secure when used on their supported platforms.
For normal Glitchout packets, you're probably not going to notice a meaningful performance difference anyway.
So:
Performance goblin: → Aegis256
Bandwidth goblin: → XChaCha20Poly1305
🤓 Nerd note:
Encryption turns your data into unreadable garbage for anyone who isn't supposed to read it.
Basically:
hello bro
becomes
$#@F8a91xQ...
Very scientific. Very hacker. Very encrypted.

There is currently one volume setting for all in-game sounds.
It uses a percentage:
More individual sound settings may come later.
🤓 Nerd note:
0% means no sound.
